As a part of initiative of CBIC, “eOffice”, an application developed by the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, to carry out office work electronically, has been launched in the O/o the Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), Vijayawada. The application is designed to establish a paperless environment in Government offices, increase efficiency, transparency, effectiveness, employee convenience and accountability and to give better services to the taxpayers.

“eOffice” is an application that has been designed in sync with the needs of a modern Government and has been conceived as the instrument for the Next Generation Government. It paves a platform for Personalized, role based, secure access to internal information for the employees that is accessible through any browser. Personalized services are enabled and employees receive Electronic notifications of services and transactions based on their needs and contingencies.

“eOffice” aims to improve governance by automating the internal processes of handling files and taking decisions within the government. Over 50,000 officers and staff will use this application, making CBIC one of the largest government departments to automate its internal office procedures. The launch of e-Office is one more measure taken by the CBIC in leveraging technology for providing a faceless, contactless and paperless indirect tax administration.

It is expected that adoption of “eOffice” to carry out office work will bring in its wake an attitudinal shift and awareness and usher in more efficient, effective and transparent inter and intra-government transactions. The process will benefit the public in terms of enhanced transparency, increased accountability, assured data security and integrity and is also expected to be a huge transformation in work culture and ethics within the department.

With launch of “eOffice”, taxpayers are encouraged to utilize electronic means of communication with the Department. In this regard, it may be noted that since e-Office application requires PDF files, it would be convenient if communications / letters sent to the Department by electronic means are in PDF format, better still if they are in searchable mode, for faster processing by the Commissionerate.
